BIOGRAPHY
Hi! I'm J. Joseph Polhill. I'm a musician from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and I have been singing for my whole life. When I got to college, I quickly realized that my true passion was for teaching voice. I want to help my students the same way that my many incredible teachers have helped me throughout my career.
My musical experience truly starts with my parents, who always kept the house full of diverse selections of music when I was young. I was singing in youth choir when I was little, and sang every chance I got through high school. My undergraduate education at Lebanon Valley College (LVC) enhanced both my performing and pedagogical knowledge of the field, opening my eyes to the possibility of becoming a voice teacher. I worked alongside my teacher, Professor Jonathan Walker-VanKuren, both to hone my talents as a performer and to study various styles of voice teaching, from traditional Bel Canto singing to more modern styles rooted in Vocology. In my graduate studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), I have continued these pursuits with Dr. Joseph Baunoch. At IUP, I held a Graduate Assistantship, where I aided the voice faculty in all manner of pursuits. I graduated with my Master of Arts in Vocal Performance in May of 2026. Since then, I moved back to Bloomsburg, and since have been teaching and singing there!
